Nuclear Engineering

Our commitments in this field

Scanscot Technology is engaged in a wide spectrum of technical challenges in all phases of nuclear power production:

  • Construction of new plants
  • Power uprate and requalification of existing plants
  • Decommissioning and dismantling
  • Storage of spent fuel and nuclear waste

Scanscot Technology has a long-term experience in linear as well as non-linear analysis of civil and mechanical structures. Skills we also can apply when analyzing and designing for example reactor containments, steam generators and reactor pressure vessels. To enable simulation of all possible operational and accidental events we perform Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) analysis.

Other important assignments for Scanscot Technology are to review design calculations and to carry out comparative structural analysis on safety related structures, systems and components at nuclear power plants.

Case studies:

Below follows a list of reference projects in the field of Nuclear Power Engineering
(Click the titles for more information).

  • Design review guideline recommendations, CNSC (Canada)
Scanscot Technology has been rewarded a contract with the main purpose to provide design acceptance criteria and review guidance, including design and analysis methodology, regarding all safety-related Civil Structures, including reactor containments.

  • Requalification of R1 Reactor Containment
On the behalf of Vattenfall, Scanscot Technology has received the commission to carry out a structural verification of the Ringhals Unit 1 reactor containment, and to determine the ultimate capacity of the containment vessel structure.

  • One-piece removal of reactor pressure vessel
Scanscot Technology has carried out, on the behalf of Barsebäck Kraft AB, a detailed study of a one-piece removal of the RPVs at the decommissioned Barsebäck NPP, as a basis for a future management decision regarding what strategy to apply for the dismantling.

  • Power uprate of Oskarshamn 3 NPP
Scanscot is, on a wide front, engaged in the power uprate project PULS at the Swedish Oskarshamn 3 nuclear power plant.

  • Construction of new plant, Olkiluoto 3 NPP
Scanscot Technology has a commission from Teollisuuden Voima Oy (TVO) to assist in the review and evaluation process of the project design specifications and the design calculations for the reactor containment, and its internal structures.
