New commission from the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority: Regulations for concrete structures at NPPs

Scanscot has won a commission to support the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority in developing new regulations for design and requalification of safety related concrete structures at nuclear power plants in Sweden. The scope of work includes evaluation and comparison of international regulatory documents, requirements, codes, standards and guidelines, as well as recommendations on new regulations for assessing the acceptability of design submissions.

BRIGADE used in Northern Link project

WSP Sweden has decided to use BRIGADE for the structural analysis and design of the Värtan intersection as part of the Northern Link bypass in Stockholm, Sweden. The multi-level intersection is a 350-meter-long roadway bridge, with a large traffic circle and a number of on- and off-ramps.

Scanscot assists the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission

Scanscot Technology has won a commission to support the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission developing regulatory design review guidelines for the potential of licensing new Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs) in Canada. The scope of works included identifying design acceptance criteria and review guidance, with sufficient technical direction and acceptance criteria to ensure that the submission made for proposed NPP comply with the applicable safety objectives, safety principles and safety criteria.

Decommissioning: One-piece removal of reactor pressure vessel

One major part of the demolition of a Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) is the dismantling of the Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV) and its internals. There exist two major optional strategies for dismantling of a RPV and its internals;
- Segmentation and cutup of the RPV and the RPV internals at plant.
- One-piece removal of the whole RPV, with or without the RPV internals.
Scanscot Technology carries out, on the behalf of Barsebäck Kraft AB, a detailed study of a one-piece removal of the RPVs at the decommissioned Barsebäck NPP, as a basis for a future management decision regarding what strategy to apply for the dismantling.

Scanscot participates in SMART 2008

Scanscot Technology participates in the SMART 2008 international seismic benchmark, along with 36 other participant teams worldwide. SMART 2008, Seismic design and best-estimate Methods Assessment for Reinforced concrete buildings subjected to Torsion and non-linear effects, was initiated in order to assess the seismic tri-dimensional effects and non-linear response of reinforced concrete buildings. For this purpose a reduced scaled model (scale of 1/4th) of a nuclear reinforced concrete building was tested in 2008 on the AZALEE shaking table at Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique (CEA Saclay, France). This test, supported by Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique (CEA) and Electricité de France (EDF), is a part of the SMART 2008 project.

Scanscot Technology has been awarded the Gasell prize two years in a row

Scanscot Technology AB is one of the fastest growing companies in Sweden. Scanscot therefore has, for the financial years 2007 and 2008, been rewarded with the prize Gasellen by the respected business journal Dagens Industri, DI. The criteria are tough and only one percent of Swedish corporations meet the demands.

A Gasell:

* has published at least four annual reports

* has a turnover exceeeding ten million Swedish crowns

* has at least ten employees

* has continuously increased its turnover during the last three years

* has at least doubled its turnover during the same period

* has had a positive accumulated result for the four financial years put together

* has, to a considerable extent, had an organic growth, not growth resulting from mergers or aquisitions

* has healthy finances
